What is Soffit? What is Fascia?

A soffit is the exposed underside of a roof eave. It is responsible for regulating the home’s temperature, enhancing the roof’s look, and protecting the rafters from the elements. Wood, vinyl, or aluminum are the common materials used to manufacture soffits. Vented soffits ensure a steady airflow between the roof and attic to prevent moisture buildup and also keep insects and animals out of the home.

Fascia is mounted where the roof meets the home’s outer walls, also known as the roofline. This long, straight board runs along the roof’s lower edge and is attached directly to the roof trusses. Besides offering a finished look, fascia protects the property’s interior from damage caused by the elements. Fascia boards are often made from wood, aluminum, vinyl, and fiber cement.
